lessons in love

Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977): visually stunning. i know that sounds cheesy like i'm some newspaper critic who actually knows what he is talking about, but that's really what comes to mind after seeing it. effects, music, acting, story, suspense, scariness, it has it all. truly the movie to solidify spielburg as the ruler of the world when it comes to movies. kim asked me last night (5 minutes into the movie as she was falling asleep) why i watch these old stupid movies, but this movie is proof that old movies can stand the tests of time and always will. so many movies today would not be what they are if it weren't for movies like this. buy it.

Pi (1997): this on the other hand wasn't so good. props to the cinematographer for the great black and white work. the story also had tons of potential to be amazing. but in the end i was confused about pretty much everything and sad that it didn't turn out the way i had hoped. was he mental and what was with the brain scar thing and his good drill work at the end? kinda like with a beautiful mind. the whole time you wish that maybe he isn't just some lunatic, but in the end he is and you just wasted 2 hours. i guess if you like requiem for a dream, then you should see this (or probably already have), otherwise don't. instead, read the first paragraph above.

as for an update on the dance game because i know you are dying to find out, i'm getting somewhat good on level 2's and 3's on the crazy levels. a little background info here on the levels:
Easy, levels 1 to about 6 or 7.
Hard, levels 1 to about 8 or 10.
Crazy, levels 2 to about 8 or 9.
same songs found in easy, hard, and crazy, but they are just extremely harder to do the moves to. i can do about every easy level there is. on hard i can do all but maybe 5 songs. on crazy i'm lucky if i can do 5 songs. i did a crazy song yesterday (swing baby) and i swear there had to have been 500 steps you had to do beat the level. i've seen someone do it online, but i can't even imagine being able to understand all the steps to do it. i'll stick with my level 2's for now. also trying to convince kim to buy the real arcade dance game to go in our living room. i'm still working on that one though.

i bought another month pass to blockbuster which is soooo dangerous. i haven't done homework in like 4 days now and i've got so much to do. movies is not what i need right now, but i can't help it. i love watching them. kim doesn't understand and thinks they are a waste of time. she'd much rather play a game or talk or something. not like that stuff is a waste of time. i have a movie at home i'll be watching tonight and i'm gonna pick another up after work today. maybe after writing all this i'll start my homework. i always say that though. never happens. speaking of all this movie talk, kim is done with sopranos. we saw an ep that was pretty bad with chicks getting smacked around and more footage of bada-bing (the nudie bar they hang out at) than of tony himself. so she's done, which i admire, but sadly it won't stop me. i still can't get enough. watched the first ep without her last night and it sucks that we can't do our nightly episode each night, but what can you do? i'll keep her informed as much as i can i guess. i doubt it means she'll not watch six feet when that next season comes out, considering its sometimes just as bad as sopranos. whatever makes her feel better.
